If you know me, you might know that I am a fanatic for all things festive… And one of my favorite seasons is about to ramp up with all kinds of great things to experience in Central Ohio. It’s Fall in Ohio! Here is a list of some of my favorite things to do and places to go this year.

U Pick Apples! Apple season is about to start and runs through early November. Take advantage of the season and one of my favorite orchards around: Lynd Fruit Farm: 9091 Morse Road SW, Pataskala, Ohio. Not only do they have a huge variety of apples to pick, they have a great farmers market and a family fun area with a corn maze, barrel train, bounce houses and so many other things to do. There website is great too. It has a schedule of which apples are available each week along with a variety menu so you know what the different varieties taste like.

My son has loved this tunnel slide for years!

Pumpkin Picking! And my all time favorite place to do that is Pigeon Roost Farm: 4413 National Road SW, Hebron, Ohio. Along with a huge pumpkin patch, they have barns, a farm market, farm animals and a HUGE fun center with so many things to do, you will need a couple of hours to fit it all in. My kids and I look forward to heading there every year and I know you will too!

Columbus Oktoberfest: September 6-8, 2019

Try some delicious German food and beer at the Ohio Expo Center while listening to the musical performances on two stages and tons of events. Columbus Oktoberfest and Dispatch Fall Home and Garden Show take over the Ohio Expo Center the same weekend so you can enjoy both! Shuttle buses will be available to transport people from one event to the other, and if you present your Oktoberfest program, you’ll get into the Home & Garden Show for free! But before the weekend starts, don’t miss the first Annual Kick-Off Partyon Thursday, Sept. 5 at Hofbrauhaus located in the Grandview Yard. The party will feature a ceremonial Pretzel Breaking at 4pm, followed by the German Dancers at 5pm and a Keg Tapping Parade at 7pm.

Ohio State Football! As a proud Alumni and Columbus native, this is definitely one of my favorite things about fall. There is nothing more electric than being surrounded by over 100,000 cheering fans at the Ohio Stadium. Whether you are at the game, tailgating on campus, or watching at home, be sure to check out the 2019 OSU football schedule so you don’t miss a game!

Haunted Houses in Central Ohio! Not for the faint of heart and these would definitely not be considered family friendly, but they are all guaranteed to give you a good scare, if you’re into that kind of thing! 13th Floor Haunted House, Haunted Hoochie (my personal favorite, this one is not for wimps!) Carnage Haunted House, and Pataskala Haunted Forest (takes me back to my high school days!)

The Worthington Farmers Market! This is by far my favorite market in Central Ohio and it is held all year round. But the outdoor season runs through October on Saturdays from 8 am to 12 pm. The vendors and businesses along High Street pull out all the stops to showcase the best that they have to offer. Don’t miss the chance to see what all they offer while it is still nice out in Ohio!

That year we had to wear winter gear over our costumes at the zoo.

Boo at the Zoo at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium! Now that my kids are older and busier, we don’t frequent the zoo quite as much as we used to. But we always make a point to visiting during the fall. Boo at the zoo starts Friday, October 11 this year and most events take place on the weekends. But the zoo has it’s decorations up to appreciate all week. They have trick or treat stations, hay rides, special character visits and more. Plus it’s one more chance for your kids to wear their Halloween costume!

HighBall Halloween! This adults only costume party has been rated as the nation’s most elaborate costume party. This two night event takes place in the Short north Arts District on High Street on October 11-12, 2019. There is a street party, live art, stage performances and a public costume contest. And in my opinion, some of the best people watching anywhere!

Slice of Columbus at the Columbus Commons! If you love pizza as much as I do, and that is a lot, this is a must do! This event will be held on September 11 from 5:00- 9:00. This is the largest pizza event in Central Ohio, including music, activities and of course, pizza! Proceeds benefit The Research Institute at nationwide Children’s Hospital. Enjoy local pizza and vote on your favorite.

Trick or Treat in your neighborhood! My favorite event of all is always trick or treating with my kids. Most of the suburbs around Central Ohio have made the decision to have Beggars to have it on October 31st if the holiday falls on a weeknight.

Whatever activities or events you decide to take part in, just make sure to get as many in as you can. Fall is a short but beautiful season in Ohio, get out and enjoy it!
